My daily 2-step routine to boost my creativity

ohh and I love fake tattoos (see hand for reference) 😎

I’ve heard this one a lot (as a fellow creative), 'Creatives always have creative ideas on the drop of a hat' and can come up with an idea at the spur of the moment. While this might be true depending on the day, creatives also need to put work into taking time to allow their minds to wander and think. Below are two practices I do daily that I notice have increased my overall creativity as a designer.

  1. Write down 10 ideas a day:
Each morning, I take about 15 minutes to let my brain wander and set a goal of writing down 10 ideas, with no boundaries. When I say no boundaries, I mean the sky is the limit. One of my most recent ideas was this cool phone design that had a niche in a large market, not much competition. Each day I write ideas that sound off the wall, and then some days they are simple such as “Let’s write a card to checkin on this person”. Let your mind wander.

  2. Take a break from a project:
This might sound silly and obvious (duh Amber), but I want to elaborate on what I mean. I find myself a lot as a designer in tunnel vision when working on projects, when I decide to step away whether that be take a walk, call a friend or what have you - I, 9 times out of 10 see the project in a new light and see where I can improve or change. Small breaks are not only necessary but worth it for your creativity flow, eyes and brain!
